European cooperation: implementation of electronic signature for design notifications in the Spanish back-office system.
On 17 August 2021, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) completed the implementation of a new set of improvements to its back-office system for designs. These were implemented with the support of the EUIPO’s European cooperation projects.
One of the main functionalities implemented was the electronic signature of notifications. Since this implementation, all notifications related to designs sent by the SPTO are electronically signed and endorsed by a secure verification code on the side of the document, which allows all users to verify their authenticity in the SPTO’s Portal. This new development represents a great step forward in the fight against fraudulent communications, avoiding phishing attempts and increasing security for users.
The aim of these projects, carried out within the framework of European cooperation projects, is to benefit users across the EU by providing modern, state-of-the-art tools and services for the EU IP offices.
